The company, which is a specialized display manufacturer affiliated with Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., has already begun construction of the factory on a site in Budapest. It is scheduled to be completed by April 2007 and will produce 42-inch panels, a spokesman for Samsung SDI in Seoul said.
Separately, Toshiba Corp. said it is in talks with the Polish government on the construction of an LCD (liquid crystal display) assembly plant in that country. The details of the project are yet to be decided, a spokeswoman for the Tokyo company said.
Over the weekend the Nihon Keizai Shimbun business newspaper reported that Toshiba is planning to spend about Ľ5 billion (US$43 million) on the plant, which will make LCD TVs for the European market.
Samsung SDI building PDP plant in Hungary
Samsung SDI Co. Ltd. is investing around 80 billion won (US$85 million) to construct a plasma display panel factory in Hungary, it said Tuesday.
